Direct TV Service

Abstract
The topic of this paper is that Direct TV has some problems. It argues that the Direct TV system has some problems after people buy and use it, while it has a lot of benefits. There are three problems of Direct TV. The first is that Direct TV is very complicated to connect. The second is that Direct TV is expensive for contacting and managing. Finally, it is possible to hack TV programs easily and clearly because it has high technology.


According to Wong’s article, “I reminisced about the good old days when things were much simpler” (Ezine Articles. para.1). In fact, everything in the world was much simpler many years ago. Everything of the images on television was only black and white when television just appeared in the world. However, technology is higher and the images on television are clearer. Also, people can have a lot of technology related to television such as DVD recorder, HDD, and so on. Do you know what Direct TV is? How do you think that Direct TV is spread around the world? Direct TV is known for its high quality and variety of channels very much. According to the article, “Direct TV is America’s top rated digital satellite entertainment service provide”(JUNK YARD. para. 2). In the future, Direct TV will be offered in everywhere. Many people want to have Direct TV because of the high quality and technology. While it is known that Direct TV has a lot of advantages, it is on some unveiled problems. People suffer from these problems after they decide to buy and use Direct TV. According to the article, DirecTV get complaints from many customers (Federal Trade Commission. para 14.). For Direct TV to take advantage of its benefit, it must address these problems. Direct TV has a complicated system. Direct TV has high cost for connecting and managing. Direct TV makes it easy to hack TV programs clearly.

Direct TV is “a direct broadcast satellite service that delivers digital broadcasting” (The Direct TV Advantage, 2007, para.1). Direct TV is owned by DirecTV, which is controlled by Liberty Media. DirecTV broadcasts television shows, sports, movies, and music to households in the United States and Latin America through Direct TV. Direc TV offers the incredibly useful digital video recorder. According to the article, “The History of DirecTV” (2006), Satellite broadcasting was founded by Stanley Hubbard in the U.S. in 1981. DirecTV was founded 1994. After many years, the technology developed to enable the building of very high power satellites and digital compression. DirecTV became No.1 in customer service as rated by JD Powers & Associates in 2002 and 2003. DirecTV stopped carrying Music choice audio-channels, replacing it with 73 channels in 2005. Direct TV tried to increase to more and more channels. Today, DirecTV offers us over 800 channels with high quality. More and more customers try to have Direct TV with higher quality. On the other hand, Direct TV does not have only benefits. It gives us problems with benefits. So, some people do not like to have Direct TV. Also, some people have noticed some disadvantages of Direct TV after they have gotten it. These problems may declare why everyone does not change to Direct TV.

First, Direct TV has a very complicated system. The better the quality of the machines people have, the more complicated their systems are. Direct TV has many complicated operations because of high quality. It may be difficult to connect to Direct TV by oneself even though there is a manual for connecting it. People may need a specialist for connecting Direct TV. Also, people might be able to solve problems just through telephone customer service when the previous television that does not have high quality has problems. People will need to have a specialist or to go to the technology shop. That will make people annoyed. In addition, people will need to have a specialist or to go to a technology shop also when Direct TV is broken. It means that it takes a long time to solve problems or fix Direct TV. According to the article, “Once that was done and she maintained that it was still blurry and she was missing her favorite daytime drama, I went on to the second precaution on the checklist, which was to go outside and check her satellite dish on her roof” (Sattelite Information. para. 2). Thus, problems such as thing sometimes happen. Some customers are confused because of the complicated system. Some customers cannot solve problems even if it is easy for the specialist. We will have a long process to solve problems or fix Direct TV. The complicated system makes us more confused. Also, we need to pay money for the specialist who fixes it. The complicated system is not good for people who do not have the knowledge of technology, especially old people. It is very difficult to connect and use high technology such as thing. Whenever we have a new technology, old people will be confused and scared. DirecTV should think that customers can use Direct TV easily.

Next, Direct TV is expensive for connecting and managing. In some cases, you have to buy a specific TV and an antenna for Direct TV if you want to connect to Direct TV. If you get all of the products for Direct TV, it will be expensive. Then, you also may have to pay money for the person who connects the Direct TV. You will pay money to the specialist who connects to Direct TV. In other cases, you may have to install Direct TV programs. You have to pay money whenever you install TV programs. Also, Direct TV is easy to consume or be broken because of high quality. You need money for fixing Direct TV. Direct TV will make us pay more money than we expect. If you use Direct TV, you have to pay a lot of money before you use it. Also, you suffered from paying the specialist who solves the problems or fixes Direct TV after you use Direct TV. People spend a lot of money for Direct TV. DirecTV should offer customers the service for solving problems and fix Direct TV free or as low a price as possible.

Finally, it is possible to hack TV programs easily and clearly. According to Anderson’s article, “Everyone wants to get something for free” (Ezine Articles, para.1). Needless to say, everyone would prefer to get something free. However, some people pay for Direct TV if they need to pay. Others do not want to have Direct TV with paying money. There are some reasons why someone may want to hack Direct TV illegally. The first reason is that people do not want to pay for Direct TV. People have to pay money every month to get service. The second reason is just that people do not have money to pay for the service. However, they want to see TV programs with high quality on Direct TV. It may seem to be difficult to hack TV programs on Direct TV because of their high quality. Sad to say, the hacking system becomes high quality with new technology. Also, the images will be clearer because of high quality if TV programs are installed illegally. That makes hackers install TV programs easily and clearly. Then, hackers may earn money by hacking Direct TV. When people pay someone to hack Direct TV service at home, they will pay more than if they simply have Direct TV. Also, most people do not notice that the action of hacking is illegal. Someone has to pay more money for court fees and lawyers if they go to jail. It is a better idea to simply get Direct TV in the legal way.

Supporters of Direct TV discuss the fact that it is a good solution because it gives us more choices of channels. In fact, Direct TV offers us 800 channels include shows, sports, movies, music, and so on. We may be able to choose one channel from many varieties. Also, we may get more interests. However, these arguments do not give more choices of varieties and interests. One channel may have the specific genre of TV programs. The varieties will be limited. In fact, many channels broadcast the same programs again and again. You can see the same program many times in one day. It makes us bored for watching the same programs and annoyed for searching the channel that you want to watch. In addition, it may be difficult to get new information or news because you will always change the channel for seeking the program that you want to watch. You may take a long time to search for the program that you want to watch while changing the channels. Therefore, you may lose the chance to watch the programs you want to watch. Also, you may lose the new information or news while searching for the channel. In addition, you may notice the channels that you like. So, you will watch only the channels that you like. You will not care about other channels. Thus, you will not have the chance to have new interests. DirecTV should broadcast various programs on various channels every day. We will be able to get more interests, information, and news.

It is very clear that Direct TV has some big problems after people buy and use it. It is difficult to say that Direct TV has a completely good system. DirecTV should consider the solution of the problems of its complicated system, the high cost, and the easy hacking.
It will not be impossible for Direct TV to solve these problems. DirecTV should inform people not only advantages but also problems. People can see both advantages and disadvantages, and then they can think about buying or not. If DirecTV offer various generation Direct TV, they should care about people who do not have the knowledge of technology very well. Also, DirecTV should offer the customer service more easy and free. Thus, more people will trust Direct TV and buy it.

Wikipedia

Today, many people use Wikipedia for getting information. Wikipedia is very useful for getting information. It has a lot of information. However, it does not always offer us the right information. In spite of that fact, many people still rely on the site. Also, many students rely on the site when they write papers. There are three big problems if students are allowed to use or cite Wikipedia. Wikipedia gives students wrong information, makes lazy students, and makes students use similar reports. Therefore, schools should ban the use of Wikipedia for papers and exams.

First, students use or cite the information for their papers or exams even if its information form Wikipedia is wrong. According to Martin’s article, it is possible to post wrong and vicious information because anyone can write and edit at any time free (2008).” If someone writes or edits the wrong information on the site, students who want to get the information for their paper or exams may learn the information from Wikipedia. Then, students will use the wrong information on the report or exams. It may be a big problem. They will get a low score because of the wrong information from Wikipedia.

Second, Wikipedia makes students too lazy to search for the information. According to Lengel, “The Internet will never like the school library. No should it be. Its value as a communication medium lies in its openness and diversity. But these same aspects make it problematic for our students. They, like many of us, were brought up trust what we read in a library book, or in the newspaper, or on television. These communication channels were for the most part well-medicated, and so over the users developed a respectable authority” (2002, para. 12). Students should learn many things from their searching. Wikipedia is easy to search for information from. Students do not try to search anymore. They will be satisfied with the papers with only information from Wikipedia.

Finally, Wikipedia make students write similar reports. There is limited information on even Wikipedia to offer students for their papers. If every student gets the information from Wikipedia, every student will write similar papers. Students will not write unique papers. Wikipedia may easy to get a lot of information but it is not good for students when they search for information. Students cannot get a variety of information.

In conclusion, Wikipedia is not good for students. Students may get wrong information, become lazy, or write similar reports. Wikipedia is not appropriate for students when they search for information. Schools should demand that students to get the information from various sources such as books, newspaper, or articles.

Direct TV is owned by Direct TV Group, which is controlled by Liberty Media. Direct TV broadcasts television shows, sports, movies, and music to households in the United States and Latin America. Direct TV offers the incredibly useful digital video recorder. Direct TV tried to increase more and more channels. Today, Direct TV offers us over 800 channels with high quality. While Direct TV has many advantages, it has some big problems which are not known by many people.

For Direct TV to take advantage of its benefit, it must address these problems; a complicated connection, high cost, and easy hacking.

First, Direct TV is very complicated to connect. There are many complicated operations because of high quality. It may be difficult to connect by yourself even though there is a manual for connecting. You may need a specialist for connecting. Also, the better the quality of the machines people have, the more complicated their systems are. When a previous television is broken, you might be able to fix it just through telephone customer service. It is not easy to fix Direct TV when it has problems, because of its being complicated.
Next, Direct TV is expensive for connecting and managing. In some cases, you may have to buy a specific TV and an antenna for Direct TV if you want to connect Direct TV. If you get all of the products for Direct TV, it will be expensive. In other cases, you may have to install Direct TV programs with money. You have to pay money every time when you install TV programs. Also, Direct TV is easy to consume or be broken because of high quality. You need money for fixing Direct TV. Direct TV will make us pay more money than we expect.

Sad to say, the hacking system also becomes high quality with new technology. Also, the images will be clearer because of high quality if TV programs are installed illegally. That makes hackers install TV programs easily and clearly.

Media Ownership Issue #2

According to this article, “Media ownership hearings begin with hundreds urging government to prevent cross ownership,” hundreds of people who are actors, writers, and musicians asked a government regulatory agency to prevent media big companies from growing bigger in California. Kevin Martin, who is the Commission Chairman, supported the idea that a company cannot own both newspaper and broadcast station in the same city. The cross-ownership rule was abolished in 2003, but the abolition caused a popular revolt, congressional action, and a federal appeals court decision. Before FCC makes new rules, whether a company can own some ownership in a same city was discussed in Tuesday’s hearing. While large media companies are asking for the rationale, many companies are hoping that the FCC would abolish cross-ownership rules for cost saving and increased profits.

There are three issues against the cross-ownership; increase of indecent programming, crisis of freedom of expression, and less competition needed in media.

First, indecent programs might increase when a company has cross-ownership. That there are many companies in media means that more various programs are offered. If a company had some ownership in television, however, the plentiful ideas would be limited. Actually, there are 300 channels in television in the U.S. now. And then, 5 companies control 25% of audience share. Because of the concentration of media, violent and sexual programs are increasing. Also, this means that
the programs for children have decreased. Actually, 50% of the programs for children were disappeared from 1998 to 2003. The cross-ownership makes the programs in the media indecent.

Second, small companies might lose the freedom of expression because of big companies take over in media. The places for free expression are lost by less variety in media. Small companies cannot compete with big companies. This means small companies cannot express themselves. If a big company monopolizes the media, Hispanics and blacks will be shut out because of the minorities. We have the rights of the free of expression. Every companies should express themselves free.

Third, there will be no competition with each other for making good programs if the number of companies in media decreases. This means the programs in media become worse. The companies need to compete with the rival companies, and they should make better programs and offer them. The competition in media does not exist if there are no rivals. They need the rival companies for making and offering good programs.

Consequently, it is obvious that cross-ownership affects the media. The coarse programs in media would increase, the freedom of expression would be lost, and the companies would lose the rivals making good influence. Thus, FCC should limit the rules of the media.

Media Ownership Issue #1

According to Dunbar in his article, “Media ownership issues return to center stage,” Federal Communications Commission has started to discuss about whether a company can have the ownerships of both newspaper and television stations in an area. There is the Chicago-based Tribune CO., which has the ownership of Los Angeles Times and KTLA-TV, Channel 5. However, the FCC is trying to prohibit the Tribune from having the ownerships of both newspaper and television stations in the same market. The Tribune requested to be able to renew the broadcast license and keep the ownerships. The FCC is seeking advice about the ownership limits from radio and television stations, and whether one company can have cross-ownerships.

There are three issues when one company has cross-ownership; the financial trouble, the monotony, and too much pressure from politics, audience, and other media.

First, the other companies may have financial trouble if one big company has cross-ownership. If the big company broadcast unified information or news through some media such as television, newspaper, radio, and so on, audiences will often see or hear the information or news. So, many audiences believe their information or news. While the big company will get a lot of profit, other small companies will get worse.

Second, the speeches or opinions which the company which has the cross-ownership give audiences would be monotonous. Generally, a company doesn’t offer audiences various speeches or opinions. If a company owns a newspaper and television station, the company gives audiences the same speeches or opinions even through the different institution. This prevents or slows down from the offering to audiences of various information or of various opinions.

Lastly, the company which has the cross-ownership may get too much pressure from various fields such as politics, audience, and media from other countries. If the big company which has the cross-ownership reports false news in the media, the influence will be very big. The speeches or opinions in media should be made very carefully.

Consequently, not only the company but also other companies have bad effects if a company has the ownership. Other companies will lose their financial profits. Audiences cannot get various information. And then, the company has too much pressure with their speeches or opinions. It is obvious that the company should not have cross-ownership.

Information Technology Issue

According to Twist in her article “Controversy blights UN net summit,” The World Summit on the Information Society was held, and more than 170 countries gathered in Tunis. The topic was about the technology between rich and poor countries. It is said that the net should advance information and communication technologies in poorer countries. Also, they had a dispute. Some countries said that we should have someone who manages and controls the net. However, the article and other countries said that the information technology should be created and shared freely. There are three important benefits for having the net technology free; the freedom of expression, the freedom of sharing information, and the good economy.

First, people should express themselves freely through the net. Everyone has the rights of free expression. So, what we want to write and express should be written and expressed freely. If we cannot express ourselves on the net, it would be boring. We can get and learn a lot of information and opinions from others because we have different and good expressions. So, expressing our opinions should be free on the net.

Second, we should get a lot of information by sharing the technology. The technology lets us get a lot of information from other countries rapidly. The net technology becomes a bridge among countries. Also, we can know about each other more and more. For example, poor countries may learn good ways of business and life from rich countries through the net. Thus, poor countries may improve the life quality by sharing a lot of information. So, sharing information should be free for everyone.

Lastly, we can get a better economy through the net. Actually, a large amount of money is moving from some countries to others through the net today. The net technology is the easiest way to make contact between some countries and others. The net technology passes across the border move easily and sooner. Also, we don’t care about the time that we contact with other countries. Then, the cost of contact with other countries is lower than using telephone and letters. We should have the net technology free for a better economy. 

Consequently, the technology has big benefits for us. The technology gives us a lot of information from others and other countries. We can get more information through the net. We can build the relationship among companies or countries. Also, it gives us better lives. It helps us get a better life. As a result, someone who manages the net should not control the net technology. We should be able to use the net technology freely.

Precious Time in Tokyo Disney Land

I remember my parents were always busy to work for us. I often stayed at my home with my sisters when my friends and most of the people in Japan went out because my parents had to work together. I was sometimes sad. My parents sometimes had a special break to take us to some places: around Japan such as Tokyo, Kyoto, Okinawa, and so on, and Guam. They were very good parents because they let us experience a lot even though they were very busy. I had been to Disney Land in Tokyo seven times before graduating from elementary school. The best memory is my second time I went to Disney Land because I had special things: a ride, a lunch, and a letter.

I remember I went on a ride with my father or mother many times in Disney Land. Actually, the second time is my first memory to go to Disney Land because the first time was when I was 2 or 3 years old. My parents took us to the adventure place for children because I could not get into all rides because of my age. I was 6 years old. I found the Dumbo ride, which is an elephant flying and go up and down. I could ride with just one person. So, I went on the ride with my father and mother in rotation many times. It was very comfortable because I felt the wind and my father or mother next to me on the ride were all mine. My parents would be amazed at my wanting to ride many times. However, they kept riding with me until I was satisfied with the ride.

Second, my parents took us to a special restaurant for lunch. My sisters and I had the Mickey Mouse Pancakes and orange juice with Donald Duck Cup. Some Disney characters came to our table while we were eating. First, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy came and took photos with us. After they left, a wolf and a fox from Pinocchio came to our table. I remember that my sisters and I were scared and cried behind my parents. However, Pinocchio came to our table and we smiled soon because he had a funny performance for us. Pinocchio fought against the wolf and the fox and drove them away. Then, I shook his left hand, my twin sister shook his right hand, and my younger sister shookPinocchio right foot. I really had a precious time at the restaurant.

Third, I received a special letter from Mickey Mouse after I came back home. I could bask in the afterglow of the trip after my parents went back to their work. I wrote a letter to him on my way to Disney Land in the plane. It was hard for me to write Japanese because I just started to learn to write Japanese. I rewrote the letter again and again. My mother helped me to write the letter. The content was very easy because I just wrote my name, age, elementary school’s name, and favorites. Then, I gave Mickey Mouse the letter when I met him in the special restaurant for lunch. And I received a letter back from Mickey Mouse. Actually, my father told a staff member our home address. I heard the story from my parents recently. I can talk with my family about the trip a lot because we had a nice time in Disney Land.

In conclusion, my parents are still busy. I can not go out with them when most of the people in Japan go out with their parents. I understand their work, so I am not sad now. It is natural in my family. However, my parents take us somewhere when they get a break until now. And they let us experience as much as possible. I want to take my parents on the best trip when I earn money. And I would like to talk with my family about the trip a few years later.
